Apple Announcement Elicits International Shouts of “Where in the World is my iPad?”

April 14, 2010 - By Justin E. Gehrke

Today, Apple broke the bad news to its international customers that the launch of the iPad will be delayed by a month. Citing higher than expected demand as the cause, Apple assured consumers that the decision was difficult, but necessary. Now slated for international release during the latter part of May 2010, Apple also confirmed they would begin taking international online preorders on May 10, 2010. What still seems to be missing is the actual price international consumers will have to pay to purchase what is, thus far, undoubtedly the hottest computing product of the year.

According to the company’s estimates, more than 500,000 iPads were given homes during the first week of the tablet’s release. They also report that preorders for the iPad 3G models has also been strong. Customers can expect to receive theirs by the end of April 2010. In an attempt to console disappointed, international Apple fans, the company said, “We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason—the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far.”
