Google announces improved Gmail experience on iPad

June 22, 2010 - By Justin E. Gehrke

Yesterday, the Google Mobile Blog announced a new and improved interface for iPad owners who rely on Gmail. Since the initial release of the Apple iPad in April 2010, users have complained about several aspects of the service’s rendering on the iPad. The most bothersome of the glitches included the inability to scroll, within long email messages.

The team says iPad users will also now see a large “full screen compose window” when creating a new message. Previously, the screen was split and showed both the inbox and compose views, within the same screen. Finally, additional text will now be visible and distracting messages will no longer be visible on the side. The team promises that more work is underway to maximize the Gmail experience on larger touch screens, like those provided by the iPad.
