TVersity: Home multimedia sharing for the rest of us

September 8, 2010 - By Alex Miranda

Hi, my name is Alex, and I am a media junkie. This is a common issue for so many of us, we love our media. I love my music, movies, and pictures. I also really appreciate being able to easily access them from multiple locations. TVersity allows me to easily do that. Before, I had to take a CD and manually rip it to my Xbox or transfer movies to a USB drive so I could watch it on my Microsoft Xbox 360 or my Sony PS3.

The company describes their mission as: “…to empower individuals to organize and personalize their home and Internet multimedia collection (audio, video and images) and have universal access to it anywhere (at the home or on the go) anytime and from any device.” For my part, I can assure you this statement is very accurate. I have been using TVersity for some time and can attest that it works exactly as advertised.

I like TVersity for it’s simplicity. I am not a computer genius, so I like to just click on a few things and just make things work. I do not want to worry about converting files and all the headaches that come with some other media sharing software. TVersity makes it easy. Go to their download page and make sure you have all the basic requirements. Once you have downloaded it, you simply install and configure the TVersity folders. It’s from here that TVersity will obtain your media.

Once you have it set up, you need to go to your XBOX 360 or PS3 to get things running. Here is a quick start guide for those two systems if you have any questions. For the Nintendo Wii, the process is slightly more involved but still works easily. The quick start for the Wii is here. I use the free version of TVersity, which has music and photo support for the Apple iPad/iPhone/iPad Touch, and if you decided to pay for the TVersity Pro version, you will also have video support included.

For a free product TVersity is very robust and works very well. I have never had any issues with TVersity that a simple codec download did not fix. I have had great luck watching videos and listening to music for some time. TVersity is working on more and more things. If you check out their support page, you’re sure to find the answer any additional questions you may have. In my professional opinion (as a media junkie), TVersity is magic. Give it a try, and I have no doubt you’ll agree.
